Network Engineer

We are seeking a talented and experienced Network Engineer to join our growing IT team. In this critical role, you’ll play a vital part in ensuring the security, stability, and performance of our network infrastructure, which supports all our banking operations.

About the Role

Firewall Management:

  • Design, implement, and manage firewall policies and configurations to protect network resources from external threats.
  • Conduct regular firewall rule reviews and audits to ensure compliance with security policies and standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve firewall-related issues and provide timely support for firewall incidents.

Network Design and Implementation:

  • Collaborate with the network team to design and deploy secure network architectures.
  • Implement and maintain network security solutions including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and other security appliances.
  • Ensure network infrastructure is resilient, scalable, and capable of meeting organisational needs.

Security Monitoring and Response:

  • Monitor network traffic and firewall logs to detect and respond to potential security threats or breaches.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration tests to identify and mitigate security risks.
  • Develop and maintain incident response procedures for network and firewall-related incidents.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for firewall configurations, network topologies, and security policies.
  • Generate regular reports on network performance, security incidents, and firewall activities.
  • Provide recommendations for improving network security and efficiency based on analysis and reports.

Collaboration and Training

  • Work closely with other IT teams to integrate firewall solutions with broader network infrastructure.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior network engineers and other staff on firewall best practices and security protocols.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest firewall technologies, trends, and security threats.

About You

  • You have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network engineering with a strong focus on maintaining and the generation of firewalls– banking or financial services is ideal but we are open to candidates with network engineer experience from other industries.
  • You possess a strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, etc.) and network security principles. 
  • Proficiency across cloud technologies including Microsoft Azure 
  • Previous experience across routing and switching as well as equipment installation and configuration 
  • You’re proficient in network administration tools and technologies (Cisco, Juniper, etc.) and scripting languages (Python, Bash). 
  • You have a keen eye for detail, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • You are a strong communicator and can clearly document technical issues and solutions
