The Memorial Muster Rally is about preserving and remembering the grave sites of those police who have died in service, and in particular their final resting place. Additionally, sites of significant historical significance to NSW Police. Organisers encourage people to do research themselves, and seek out family members who have served and since passed for example.
Many of these graves are now over 150 years old and have fallen into disrepair and may have become unmarked.
The event has been organised to find and work towards ensuring these sites remain available for future generations as a mark of respect. As with the Defence graves we should afford the same amount of respect to our fallen Officers. We should always honour and remember those that have come before us.
Funds raised will be shared amongst Police Legacy and also go towards the restoration, preservation and recording of grave sites
There are four routes, or guides, starting at Port Macquarie (north), Bega (south), Bourke (west) and a Greater Sydney circuit. The routes will be designed to meet at Bathurst for a BBQ and information exchange. Along these routes (or close to) will be a number of sites of historical interest, kindly provided by researchers. You will be required to “collect” a number of sites along the way and gather the information required. You can do the route solo or with a number of passengers, registration will be on a per car basis. Importantly, organisers do not want people to travel in large groups/convoy etc as this adds unnecessarily to the logistics.
This is designed to be a safe, fun and rewarding day. Families & children are welcomed to be part of the event. Remember it’s basically a car rally so there will be some automotive themes involved.
