Since 2007, NSW Police Force Detectives have held a biennial Criminal Investigations Dinner to celebrate the vocation of criminal investigation . Over 1500 retired and serving criminal investigators attend the event, which promotes the honour, history, commitment and professionalism of criminal investigation in New South Wales. In NSW there are around 120 Domestic Liaison Officers (DVLOs). These Officers work tirelessly to assist victims of domestic violence, in particular children at risk. The role of the DVLO is a very busy and extremely stressful role, with NSW Police attending to over 145,000 reported DV incidents last year. In 2009, mother of two and ex-Police Officer Francine Sammut was diagnosed with Breast Cancer aged just 30. This required a full removal of the left breast and subsequent chemotherapy. In 2012, Francine discovered that the cancer had spread and an emergency hysterectomy was required. Francine has undergone 42 rounds of chemotherapy since the initial diagnosis, but has sadly found out that the cancer is terminal.
