The Jackal Rugby Academy was formed in May 2016 with the following objectives:
- To nurture and build the passion and skills of rugby union within the youth of New South Wales. We strive to develop these skills and passion through commitment, discipline and fun.
- To foster a healthy lifestyle within the community (Adults/ Kids) via Rugby Union.
The program has two aspects:
1) Beach Rugby
This is an exciting and dynamic brand of rugby union played on sand. Beach Rugby is a five a side game, played over a ten minute period. Playing to modified laws and a modified field, beach rugby is fast, dynamic and fun. The carnival atmosphere of music, dance and rugby complement each other whilst teams of men and woman battle each other in their respective competitions. This will be held each year at North Wollongong beach, Wollongong with the first event to be conducted on the 4th Feb 2017.
From raising funds through sponsorship and participation at the beach rugby, the money raised goes into the kids clinics and youth programs to make it affordable for kids to attend.
2) Disadvantaged youth program.
This will be a six week program for disadvantaged and young offending youth between 12-16 years. The six week block will have 60 mins of rugby coaching and 30 mins of lectures on drugs, re-offending, leadership. From this program, efforts will be made for attendees to join a local rugby club with sponsorship money paying for their fees for the first year. There are many opportunities for the youth to continue to be mentored and have positive role models to continue their development.
